The Vastness

Emma Smith

Everyone always says

they feel small in the universe.

The vastness

of the starry sky

shrinks us in comparison.

However, I struggle.

I cannot feel small.

Call it conceit,

but within me

are feelings vast and endless.

If so much is contained within me,

how can I be small?

Does this simply not make the universe

that much larger in comparison?

If we all contain multitudes,

and the universe contains multitudes of us,

it is not how small we are,

but how large the universe.
