To You, From Me
Jillian Jenks
Take me down the path we carved,
With iron shovels in the burning sun
To the house you built for us
Surrounded by a field of flowers we raised
Petals drifting in the wind,
Painting the sky in magnificent shades of violet and azure
Life blooming around us, bees humming, birds chirping
The world standing perfectly still
Living with us in this moment of bliss
As we sit atop lush grass,
Hold hands and laugh
Tell me all you keep hidden inside,
Whisper softly in my ear with a delicate voice
So I may hang onto every word,
Write it upon the surface of my heart,
And play it back like a song
In turn I'll sing you a melody
A symphony of similes I always thought but never said
For I believed you knew my truth
But how can one listen if there's nothing to hear?
Oh how I wish I could chant it now
My voice crying out to someone who is no longer there
I missed my opportunity
I miss you
Hold me in your arms once more
Let me feel the warmth of your skin,
Gently caressing me, your embrace filled with such love
Like an angel you came from above,
Illuminated the dark in my heart,
Saved me from quiet nights spent in tears
I hope I did the same for you
Though I'll never know now
Y ou’re flying back to where you came from
I hold onto you tightly,
Begging you not to go
But you’re slipping from my grasp,
Y our warmth a distant feeling
As I watch you fade from sight
A passing dream forever living as a constellation in my memory
Show me your place among the stars
Suns speckled like freckles on your rosy cheeks
Galaxies you've painted with graceful brush strokes
Nebulas expanding and exploding in brilliant light
Comets that streak across the sky as tears from your eyes
Y ou are the universe itself, creating and destroying in cosmic luminescence
Every moment the sun shines bright,
Every moment the moon pulls the tides
That's you loving and experiencing each second passing by
Smiling as you watch me live for us both
