Gaia's Lament

Blighted. We shed collective tears for you.
From Acadia to the Mojave we witness your desecration
While your abusers in D.C revel in their decadence.
Those who should protect you wave flags of red, white and blue
Like matadors taunting your maternal fury.
The mountains of West Virginia have been lobotomized;
Sacrificed by the insatiable thirst for black diamonds.
They claim it keeps the lights on, but what light will there be to speak of
When the exploitation of your bounty plumes dark clouds to blot out the sun?
Your children in Alaska have been euthanized;
Trunks and limbs that have endured the harshest winters
Are no match for savage steel machines that turn your miracles
Into fuel for the fire of their desire.
Your vast blue canvas in Los Angeles has been discolored;
They malform your melodious zephyrs
With the miasma of their malevolent ambition
Your favorite color debased in favor of their preferred putrid yellow.
You gave us a duty to protect you
You put your trust in squalid creatures
That cannot even trust one another.
They laugh at your decision in Camp David
While those of us who revere you, our mother
Are relegated to the roles of “lunatics” and “extremists”
You give and give
Hoping that one day they will give back
While we shed tears
Our cries fallen on deaf ears
